Install help
Install Fireball Designer on Ubuntu
For Ubuntu 24.04 or later on an Intel or AMD PC or VM. Install the .deb below; an apt repository is coming. Pre-Release: this is an early app shell today, and the modeling core is not connected yet.
You need
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or later, with a desktop (GNOME or KDE).
- An Intel or AMD (x86_64) computer. Not sure? Open Terminal and run the check below.
First: check your computer
Run this in Terminal. It should print x86_64.
Which kind of computer is this?
x86_64 means this page is the right one. aarch64 means you need the ARM version.
uname -mTerminalyou@ubuntu:~$ uname -mx86_64 ← Intel or AMDaarch64 ← ARMIllustration: Terminal
Install the .deb
Download the .deb, then install it from Terminal or open it with App Center.
Download the .deb
Use the Download .deb button at the top of this page. It saves fireball-designer_x64.deb to Downloads.
Install it from Terminal
Works for a first install and for upgrading, from the Downloads folder.
cd ~/Downloads && sudo apt install ./fireball-designer_x64.debOr open it with App Center
In Files, right-click the .deb and choose Open With ▸ App Center, then click Install. If Designer is already installed, App Center only shows Installed; use Terminal to upgrade.
Open it
Press the Super key, type Designer, and open Fireball Designer.
The first time it opens
Open Fireball Designer and sign in with your Fireball account. This Pre-Release is an early shell: the modeling core is not connected yet, so use the Mac app for real work.
If something's off
- Is there an apt repository?
- Not yet; it is coming. Until then, install each new Pre-Release .deb from Terminal.
- App Center says “Something went wrong”.
- Usually the wrong kind of .deb for this computer. Run uname -m: x86_64 needs fireball-designer_x64.deb.
- How do I update?
- Download the newest .deb and run cd ~/Downloads && sudo apt install ./fireball-designer_x64.deb again.
- How do I remove it?
- sudo apt remove fireball-designer.
Still stuck? .
