Install the Fusion Export add-in

The Fireball Export add-in runs inside Autodesk Fusion on a Mac or Windows PC and exports your designs — bodies, components, parameters, sketches with their constraints, the timeline and CAM — as a .fbfusion package that Fireball Designer opens as an editable project.

You need

  • Autodesk Fusion on macOS or Windows.
  • Fireball Designer for Mac, to open what you export.

macOS

Unzip it, keep it somewhere permanent, then add it to Fusion.

  1. Unzip it

Double-click FireballExport.zip in Downloads. Keep the folder named exactly FireballExport.

  2. Put it somewhere permanent

Fusion runs it from where it is, so move the FireballExport folder to a folder that stays put, for example Fusion Add-Ins in your home folder.

    mkdir -p ~/"Fusion Add-Ins" && mv ~/Downloads/FireballExport ~/"Fusion Add-Ins"/
  3. Add it to Fusion

Open Fusion and choose Utilities ▸ Add-Ins ▸ Scripts and Add-Ins (or press Shift+S). On the Add-Ins tab, click the + next to My Add-Ins and pick the FireballExport folder.

  4. Run it, every time Fusion starts

Select Fireball Export in the list, click Run, and tick Run on Startup.

  5. Find the button

Export to Fireball Designer is now in Utilities ▸ Add-Ins in the Design workspace, and in the Add-Ins panel in Manufacture. Press it with a design open to export it, a folder or a whole project.

Windows

Unblock the zip first, extract it somewhere permanent, then add it to Fusion.

  1. Unblock the download

Right-click FireballExport.zip in Downloads ▸ Properties, tick Unblock at the bottom, then OK. Windows otherwise marks every file inside as from the internet.

  2. Extract it somewhere permanent

Right-click the zip ▸ Extract All… and extract it into a folder that stays put, for example %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Fusion Add-Ins, so you get …\Fusion Add-Ins\FireballExport. Keep the folder named exactly FireballExport.

The first time it opens

Export a design with Export to Fireball Designer, then open the .fbfusion file in Fireball Designer with File ▸ Import ▸ Fusion Export Package. Designer rebuilds what it can as editable features and shows an import report. Designer's Help (Help ▸ Fireball Designer Help, search “Fusion”) covers the details.

If something's off

The add-in doesn't show up.
In Scripts and Add-Ins, select Fireball Export, click Stop, then Run. Errors appear in Fusion's Text Commands window (File ▸ View ▸ Show Text Commands).
How do I update it?
Download it again, replace the FireballExport folder with the new one, then Stop and Run it in Scripts and Add-Ins (or restart Fusion).
Does exporting change my design?
No. It reads each timeline step and puts the timeline marker back where it was.
How do I remove it?
In Scripts and Add-Ins, select it, click Stop and untick Run on Startup, remove it from the list, then delete the FireballExport folder.
